Send your kids to math camp

Saskatchewan students in Grades 7-12 are invited to explore the fun and creative world of math at the 2003 Mathematics Enrichment Camp at the University of Regina on Saturday, March 29, 2003.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a closing activity involving parents. University math and education students and faculty will work with participants to take them beyond the school curriculum and challenge them to find out how math exists in the everyday world.

“Students coming to the camp will learn that math is all around them and is more exciting than they ever imagined,” says Dr. Harley Weston, a mathematics professor and one of the event organizers.

Some of the activities and math-related topics for the day include aspects of ‘infinity,’ game theory, geometry using interactive software and a mathematics relay race involving students and parents.

The camp is organized by the University’s Department of Mathematics and is sponsored by the Canadian Mathematical Society and Esso.

Please register for the camp before March 14 online at http://www.math.uregina.ca/~camp, by calling 585-4355 or by sending a cheque for $25, payable to the University of Regina, to Math Camp 2003, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Regina, Regina, SK S4S 0A2. Registration includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
