"Am I still me?" Philosophical views of dementia to mark Brain Awareness Week at University of Regina
A public lecture exploring how philosophers view dementia will mark 2009 Brain Awareness Week at the University of Regina. Dr. David Cruise Malloy will present the topic, "Am I still me? What do philosophers say about dementia?"

Malloy is a professor of applied philosophy and ethics at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and is graduate coordinator of the gerontology program. He has published numerous articles in refereed journals and co-authored four texts dealing with applied ethics and philosophy. His current research is on the impact of ethics, religion, and culture on health-care decision-making.

The one-hour lecture is on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Room 527 of the Administration-Humanities Building. There is no charge to attend, and refreshments will be provided. Free parking will be available in Lot 3 "M" starting at 6 pm. The lecture is hosted by the U of R's Centre on Aging and Health as part of 2009 Brain Awareness Week which runs from March 16-22 and is an international effort to advance public awareness about the brain and brain research. Events are held by government agencies, hospitals, educational institutions, primary and secondary schools, health advocacy groups, and medical, research and professional organizations.

The Centre on Aging and Health is a research centre at the University of Regina. Researchers affiliated with the Centre study a wide variety of issues related to aging and health. Centre research includes, but is not limited to, investigations of better ways of assessing and managing pain in older persons, culturally sensitive end-of-life care for Aboriginal persons, falls, the psychological impact of waiting lists and ethical issues in aging and health.
