Fallout from the #MeToo movement to be discussed

The two-word hashtag #MeToo continues to capture immense attention as more high profile people are accused of sexual harassment. The accusations have also inspired sometimes heated discussions on the relationship between men and women.
What are your thoughts on the movement?
You’re invited to share them at a public discussion hosted by the University of Regina Women on Friday, February 9 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Language Institute Building (LI 129).
“We hope to engage people in an interesting, timely and important topic,” says Dr. Alison Hayford, Professor Emerita and an adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology. “The idea is to respectively discuss the Me Too movement in more basic terms. Has this changed the way we think about relations between women and men? How close to home does Me Too come? What role should educational institutions play in the context of the Me Too movement? Does the Me Too movement represent some kind of real change in how women and men work together?
The discussion will be facilitated by Hayford, currently president of the University of Regina Women Group.
“I have found even among friends of mine who are strong feminists, disagree on some aspects of this,” says Hayford.
The University of Regina Women has maintained a strong connection to the campus community since it was formed in 1963. Membership is open to all women associated with the U of R as employees, partners of employees, and to all alumnae of the University. The group has been helping host convocation receptions since 1967 and has funded a bursary each year since 1975.
People attending the discussion are encouraged to bring their lunch and stay as long as their schedules permit.
