2019 Saskatchewan Book Awards honour works with U of R connection

Works published by the University of Regina Press were winners at the 2019 Saskatchewan Book Awards on the weekend.

The 2019 Saskatchewan Book Awards took place over the weekend, and the University of Regina was well represented. Of the 14 awards handed out on Saturday, April 27, seven had a connection to the U of R.  Six awards were given to five works published by the University of Regina Press, and one award was given to a book by a U of R alumnus.

Awarded books published by the University of Regina Press:

  • Blackbird Song by Randy Lundy - Saskatchewan Arts Board Poetry Award and the Saskatoon Public Library Indigenous Peoples' Publishing Award

Spooner is professor of Education, and McNinch is a retired professor emeritus and former dean of the Faculty of Education. Archibald-Barber is an associate professor of Indigenous literatures at First Nations University of Canada.

One University alumnus was also awarded for his work:

  • Thorn-Field by James Trettwer CA'86, CCE'87, CDP'90, BA'97 - City of Regina Book Award

About the Saskatchewan Book Awards:

Founded in 1993, the Saskatchewan Book Awards promote and recognize the achievements of the local literary community. The award ceremony is annually attended by more than 1,000 people, and offers valuable exposure for Saskatchewan's authors and publishers.
