The purpose of this research project was to gain an understanding of how young dads experience fatherhood; and learn about their unique needs and their experiences seeking and accessing community supports. The research project included the identification of recommendations for the development and enhancement of services provided by Family Service Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Research was completed using a transcendental phenomenological interpretive framework and methodology. Four themes emerged from the research data: (1) Dads need help too; (2) Fatherhood as identity; (3) Absent fathers of young dads; and (4) Father friendly support needs. Recommendations for the development of community supports includes the embodiment of client centered, anti-oppressive, and traumainformed social work. Therapeutic approaches that promote the use of client centered, antioppressive and trauma-informed social work include solution focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, and solution focused narrative therapy.en_US
