Abstract

This paper provides a report of a research practicum completed in partnership with the Before it Happens initiative. Three objectives were established to gain knowledge and experience in the area of academic research. The three objectives involved the increase of personal research skills and academic writing style, advance personal program development skills, and increase personal presentation development skills. The objectives were achieved through three stages. The first objective included a literature review on violence against women and girls in relation to primary prevention strategies in Saskatchewan and Canada. The second objective included the participation in the development and pilot of a vulnerability detection tool for primary prevention of violence against women and girls in the Prince Albert and surrounding area. And, finally, the third objective included the participation in co-facilitating collaboration meetings with the staff of Before it Happens initiative. With the three objectives completed several recommendations are made for the project and future work the field of social work.
