What role can and should academic libraries play in supporting the new research and scholarly communication models that are developing? No longer merely the passive recipients of the end results of research and scholarly communication, today's academic librarians are stepping out from behind their desks and playing an active role in helping researchers and scholars not only locate research materials, but also develop research proposals, carry out their investigations, and share the results of their research.
