Abstract
Canadian artist Mary Filer (1920-2016) was born in Edmonton,
Alberta but moved to Regina as a young woman. She studied
at Balfour Technical School from 1938-1941 before relocating
to Montreal and then England. Filer eventually returned to
Canada and settled in British Columbia. Her art can be
described as eclectic, ranging in subject matter from
portraiture, cityscapes and abstract pieces. Filer is most well
known for her work in stained glass and other large-scale
murals. However as a serial experimenter, Filer was not limited
to these mediums alone.
